Group Visits

Ponderosa are very happy to accept group or class bookings, and offer a wide choice of activities to teachers and group leaders. We have educational guided tours, and tours through our wildlife walks and activities in animal welfare/husbandry and pony rides. The farm also houses an abundance of livestock which includes llamas, pigs, snakes, goats, 3 species of primate, otters and rabbits to name a few.

Educational Tours

We at Ponderosa want everyone to benefit from their visit and we are more than willing to discuss with you any individual requirements you may have. It may be that you want to include more of a specific activity to tie in with project or curriculum work you may already be involved in. Please inform us of your requirements and we will accommodate you to the best of our ability. Whether you choose a half or full day visit, the basic programme of events can include the following activities:-

Guided tour of Ponderosa

This concentrates on the animal’s habitat and welfare.

Things to do

Halloween at Ponderosa

Get ready for a fantastic Halloween here at Ponderosa Zoo!

Running from the 20th - 28th October (10am - 5pm) we have all sorts of Halloween activities taking place:

11am: Bat feeding & talk
12pm: Reptile experience
1pm: Porcupine talk
2pm: Pony Petting
3pm: Small mammal experience
4pm: Fox feeding and talk

11am - 3pm: Our pumpkin patch will be open for you pick a pumpkin, you can the draw on a design and our expert pumpkin carvers will carve it out ready for you to take home.

In addition we have a little mystery going on at the zoo and we need our customers help us solve it! Some frightful beasts from a magical world have escaped and are hiding in the zoo! Can you find them and help return them back to where they belong? Make sure to collect your clues on arrival and drop off your findings at the ticket office on your way out. Those that solve it will be given a special treat!

Fancy dress is encouraged and spot prizes will be offered to those with the spookiest costumes

* Our regular admission prices will still run throughout the week if you want to visit the zoo but do not wish to take part in the Halloween event.

** Additional pumpkins can be purchased if you would like to just purchase a general admission ticket but also get a pumpkin.

*** Our bouncy castle will be up and will be an extra charge of £1.50

How to find us

From Manchester

Come off the M62 at Junction 26 - turn right onto the A638 - Follow this road through Cleckheaton - Turn right at the clock tower in Heckmondwike centre. The centre is sign posted on the right. Turn down Station lane, under the railway bridge, past Al Murad tiles and we are the next left turn.

From Leeds

Turn off M62 at Junction 27 (Showcase Cinema) and pick up the A62 towards Huddersfield. Through 6 sets of light and turn left into Heckmondwike centre - then turn right at the clock tower in Heckmondwike centre. The centre is sign posted on the right. Turn down Station lane, under the railway bridge, past Al Murad tiles and we are the next left turn.
